Concordia Physio Sport consists of seven dynamic sports medicine and physiotherapy clinics located in and around the City of Montreal. The goal of our clinics is to deliver the best possible care to individuals in pain in the Montreal area. Our trained professionals are focused on getting you better faster.

Concordia Physio Sport started over twenty years ago by athletic therapist / osteopath Dave Campbell and athletic therapist / osteopath Gary Cummings at a clinic in the Olympic stadium in Montreal. The clinic was later moved to the West Island of Montreal and Paul Evans athletic therapist / osteopath joined the clinic. In 1990 athletic therapist Ron Rappel and Dave Campbell merged a second clinic to Concordia Physio Sport, this clinic was located on the Loyola campus of Concordia University, and is presntly situated in N.D.G. on the corner of Cavendish and Sherbrooke St.


In 1997 we expanded to the south shore opening a clinic in Brossard, physiotherapist, Steve Villeneuve is the partner managing the Brossard operations. The in 1999 we opened our Montreal Orthopedic Centre in conjunction with St. Mary’s Hospital with physiotherapist Vi Tai Thai as a partner and the same year we added our fifth clinic purchasing Physiotherapy Laval and bringing athletic therapist and osteopath Gianni Mariani on board as a partner. In 2005 Concordia Physio Sport merged with CBI Health, CBI Health is the leader in Canada in rehabilitation services operating over 130 physiotherapy and rehabilitation clinics across the country. In 2007 CBI Pierrefonds and CBI Mediclub joined Concordia Physio Sport.



 

Dave Campbell, Partner, Certified Athletic Therapist & Osteopath, Dave has over 20 years of experience working in the field of injury rehabilitation in the Montreal area as a Certified Athletic Therapist and an osteopath. He graduated from Concordia’s Bio-Physical Education Program in 1979 and from the College D’Etudes Osteopthiques de Montreal in 1996. Dave began his work in the Department of Athletics at Concordia University until 1981 when he worked as the Head athletic Therapist with the Montreal Manic Soccer Team, until they folded in 1983. Dave started working in private practice when he co-founded GDC Sports Rehabilitation in Pointe Claire with Gary Cummings in 1983. Dave has worked as Head athletic Therapist for the 1985 World Gymnastics Championships in Montreal, and was a member of the Canadian Medical Team at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland and again in 1990 in Auckland, New Zealand. In 1996 Dave

was honoured by being selected as Head Athletic Therapist for the Canadian Medical Team at the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. Dave was also selected to be part of the Canadian Medical team for the 200 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Dave is a part time faculty member at Concordia University in the Department of Exercise Department, and gives lectures to other healthcare professionals in the Montreal area. Dave has a strong background in manual therapy and exercise prescription and believes in treating the patient globally, integrating all of the body’s systems together to work harmoniously in good health. Dave spends his time away from the clinic with his wife Danielle and daughters Michelle and Melanie. He is an avid golfer and cyclist and enjoys volunteering for special events put on by the city of Kirkland where he resides.


Ron Rappel, Partner, Certified Athletic Therapist
Ron serves as managing partner for Concordia Physio Sport. Ron manages and oversees the marketing and business development aspect of the clinics operations. Ron is a full time staff member at Concordia University as Head Athletic Therapist. Ron has taught the course Emergency Care of Athletic Injuries at Concordia University for thirteen years. When Ron is not involved in sports medicine he can be found either playing hockey (100 games per year) or coaching his son Dylan in hockey. Ron volunteers his time developing scholarships at Concordia University as well as serving as the Chair of the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament, which has rasied over $700,000.00 in the last 10 years.


Gary Cummings, Partner, Certified Athletic Therapist & Osteopath. Gary Cummings is a Certified Athletic Therapist (1977) and Osteopath, who along with Dave Campbell founded the West Island Concordia Physio Sport clinic in 1983 (formerly know as GDC Sports Rehab. Center). After graduating from University of Guelph in 1972 with a B.Sc.(P.E.), Gary worked as head athletic therapist at Sir George Williams University until the merger with Loyola and then assumed the same position with Concordia University. In 1979, Gary took over as the head therapist with the Montreal Alouettes Football Club for 5 seasons until going into private practice on the West Island in 1983. Gary worked with the host medical team in Montreal for the 1976 Olympics, was selected for the 1981 winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and traveled to Kobe Japan with the Canadian medical team at the 1985 World University Games. Gary has received specialized training in orthotics fitting,

Sports First Responder (emergency care), manual therapies such as Craniosacral therapy, Myofascial Release techniques, and obtained a Diploma in Osteopathy in 1998. Gary has served as President of the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association (1987-88) and currently the Ombudsperson for the association. Gary's interests include teaching (a 21 hour course in Myofascial Release Techniques and a 21 hour course on the Cervical Spine), golf, hockey, weight and aerobic training.


Paul Evans, Partner, Certified Athletic Therapist & Osteopath. Paul graduated 1n 1989 from the Concordia University Exercise program where he specialized in Athletic Therapy. Upon completing the requirements for status as « Certified Athletic Therapist » with the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association (CATA) in 1990, Paul embarked on advancing his manual therapy skills with enrollment in the 6 year program to become an Osteopath. Paul became licensed as an Osteopath in 1997 and specializes in the treatment of disorders of the jaw joints (TMJ). He lectures on topics involving the assessment and treatment of the jaw and cervical spine in Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City and Munich. Paul worked with the Canadian Military Pentathon Team for 4 years and the Concordia University Football team for 2 years. Paul has helped treat athletes in triathlons, marathons, international wrestling and gymnastics competitions as well as provide therapy for local Sun

Youth Football and CEGEP Andre Laurendau. Paul enjoys squash, weight training, golf, hockey, tennis and carving the occasional wood duck or taking on a new home renovation project.


Vi Tai Thai, Partner, Physiotherapist
Tai graduated in 1993 in physiotherapy at Laval University. He also have a B.Sc. in Microbiology at Sherbrooke University, Minor in Arts and Sciences at University of Montreal. He has worked with the Rouge et Or volleyball team as an assistant therapist. Vi Tai has succescfully attended the myofascial release 96, muscle energy 97, all McKenzie courses, Swiss ball 98, Manual Therapy E2V2, Mobilisation of the Nervous System (Butler) 98, Strain and Counterstrain 2000, Hip Instability 2000, Hip and Pelvic complex 2000. He worked at Concordia Physio Sport in Brossard since 96 before joining the Cote des Neiges clinic in July 2000.


Gianni Mariani, Partner, Certified Athletic Therapist & Osteopath
Gianni is a partner and therapist at the Laval location of Concordia Physio Sport, started his career with our organization in 1996. He, along with his partners, opened the Laval Clinic in 1999. Following his graduation with distinction and Honours from Concordia University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science with a specialization in Athletic Therapy, Gianni gained his certification as an Athletic Therapist in 1995. While pursuing his studies, Gianni worked with the Concordia Stingers Football team for 2 years. Upon graduation, Gianni wasted no time in continuing his studies, Gianni studied for five years to become Osteopath.

In additional to being a certified athletic therapist and osteopath Gianni continues to advance is skills, taking extensive continuing education courses, his skills include Myofascial Release, Muscle Energy, Craniosacral Therapy, and Klein-Vogelbach Swiss Ball Techniques. Over his career in Athletic Therapy, Gianni has worked with various sports teams and organizations that include Head Therapist for Vanier College and travelling therapist for Athletics Canada. He has also participated in Major games as a member of the Canadian Medical Team at the World University Games in Sicily and the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg. Gianni also was the former president of the Quebec Corporation of Athletic Therapists as well as a founding member and former director of the Quebec Sports Medicine Council. When Gianni isn’t busy doing all of this, he enjoys in-line skating, ball-hockey, and softball.
